AS if being married to Hollywood hunk Orlando Bloom isn’t enough - just weeks after giving birth, Miranda Kerr is in stunning shape.
The gorgeous 28-year-old Victoria’s Secret supermodel attributes her amazing post-baby look to a simple set of rules. So simple, she reckons anyone can follow her diet and achieve a beach body this summer.
Miranda swears by eating “80 per cent healthy and 20 per cent indulgent” in order to be happy and body confident.
She loves organic food and says healthy eating is her number one priority, now she is mum to three-month-old Flynn.
We take a look at all her post-baby diet and fitness secrets for looking sexy on the beach this summer.
MUM’S THE WORD
Since giving birth to her son Flynn in January, Miranda has gushed about becoming a mum saying, “In every way, it’s just incredible. I feel so blessed and so lucky to have such a beautiful healthy child. It’s just incredible”.
Having a child has made Miranda more aware of the importance of looking after her own body, not just for her modelling career but as Flynn’s sole provider of nutrition.
She said: “Eating healthily is a priority, not just for myself, but for my son. I’m breastfeeding so it’s really important.”
Her role as a breastfeeding mother will require her to fuel up on an extra 500 calories a day of healthy foods.
NEVER SKIP BREAKFAST
Most working mums will be aware of how easy it is to neglect the most important meal of the day. With nappy changes, breastfeeding and lack of sleep, it is too easy to slip into bad habits when it comes to starting the day off in the right way.
Miranda knows that to keep on top of her busy schedule, she must eat the right foods and she swears by a good breakfast. She said: “I wake up in the morning and I have fresh green juice and some oatmeal and blueberries. I just make sure I’m feeling good and well fed.”
SLEEP AND WATER
Lack of sleep is a normal part of early parenting. However, constant sleep deprivation is bad news for anyone looking to be body beautiful. A serious lack of rest time can lead to poor mental and physical wellbeing and this is something Miranda is well aware of.
She said: “For me, it’s just about maintaining my health on a continual basis. I’m always drinking a lot of water and getting as much sleep as I can.”
EAT YOUR GREENS
"I eat extremely healthy because when I do, I have more energy. I love spinach, avocado, lots of greens and broccoli." Miranda has learnt from her own parents’ generation the importance of eating your greens. Her philosophy is one that will be passed on to her son when he is older - because mum knows best!
GREEN TEA AND COCONUT OIL
Miranda attributes her super toned skin in recent beach pictures to her love of coconut oil. She said: “I personally take around four tablespoons of coconut oil per day either on salads, in my cooking or in cups of green tea.” Coconut oil is credited with health benefits including stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism. Her love of anti-oxidant packed green tea is also a great weight-loss aid. She added: “I will not go a day without coconut oil. It is also great for the skin and hair.”
EAT FOR YOUR BLOOD TYPE
Before falling pregnant, the model admitted that the Blood Type Diet was the only specific diet she would follow. “I’ve personally found that it works for me,” she said at the time. “I am a blood type A and more often than not I eat specifically for my blood type.”
Finding a diet which works is a rarity, but this nutrigenomic way of eating is the one all Victoria’s Secret models swear by. Justin Gelband, also known as the Model Whisperer, is the man credited with getting Miranda into shape for the catwalk using the Eat Right For Your Type method.
SUPPLEMENT YOUR DIET
As a former student of nutrition and health psychology, Miranda is no stranger to studying food and its benefits. “I eat low GI, high alkaline foods drink filtered water and eat mostly fresh produce and very little meat,” she said.
Miranda maintains her post-baby body is helped by giving extra help where it is needed. “I believe it is important to supplement our food to ensure our bodies have the nutrition required to remain healthy,” she added. “This is even more important if you do not eat certified organic foods and certified organic fresh produce.”
A SIMPLE EQUATION
Nobody’s perfect all of the time - and even super sexy model Miranda admits to having her off days. Despite her inherent ability to live healthily, fallen VS Angel Miranda doesn’t panic when it comes to junk food and sugarysnacks, “I’m pretty much 80 per cent healthy, 20 per cent indulgent, because I don’t believe in depriving yourself.”
"I have a regular yoga routine I practice and that’s the one thing that really keeps me grounded and on top of that I do have a trainer as well, but to be honest with you, I can be a little lazy when it comes to that because I’m working so hard."
Yoga is a great, gentle way to build up strength and flexibility, and is good for the mind too. It is a vital way to get fit and stay fit both mentally and physically, at any age and ability.
EASY ON THE CARDIO
Postpartum workouts should be done under the instruction of a physician because of the obvious physical changes in the body. But for an already fit Miranda, getting her figure back has been thanks to her pre-baby fitness routine.
Getting back to her usual standard however, will take a little longer and Miranda has already confessed she is being cautious with any hardcore workouts. She said: “I’m doing some squats as well, but I’m taking it easy. It’s only been two and a half months so I’m not getting into it too much.”
When it comes to unveiling your new body on the beach, most women approach the moment with dread. But girl’s best friend Miranda has some wise words of advice for anybody lacking in beach body confidence, “Basically find a shape that suits you,” she said. “Every woman has a different figure, so it’s always a different swimsuit that’s going to appeal to your figure and accentuate the parts that you like about yourself.”
Armed with Miranda’s nutritional tips and fitness advice, and with dedication, most women can achieve good results. When asked what the real key to being sexy is, the model mum reckons it has nothing to do with how you look but how you are as a person. She said: “True sexiness comes from within. It’s an energy - a charisma.”
